The progression of fine art in different directions has caused a fracturing of the simple, traditional museum-like presentation. Therefore artists and curators are seeking new ways and means to communicate.
Octopus art project is also on the path looking for a different kind of art presentation. For that reason exhibition BIBLOSS is born under experimental terms. It is drawing attention to unusual methods of displaying art and its unique connection between art and the viewer.
Octopus art project involved eight artists in the creation of BIBLOSS: Edgars Mucenieks, Luce, Sarmīte Caune, Dace Lucia Kidd, Pēteris Taukulis, Juris Andersons, Justīne Lūce and Anda Poikāne. Each of them received a similar blank book with 20 statements, questions and phrases connected to the art realm. Every artist had to create a representation of the statements and interpret it on the blank pages. As a result, each book is a manifestation of the artists’ creative way of answering and visualizing thoughts. The construction of the books and the manner in which they are displayed may also be looked upon as personal interviews with the artists. It has been a great challenge for them to work within these limits and the limited possible expressions. Pushing the boundaries becomes the conjunctive core of the exhibition.
Under the same conditions Octopus art project invited Raitis Vulfs to take part; yet, instead of creating a book he is making a video. A documentary clip in DVD form about the process of making the project will be added to the eight books.
Drawings, sketches and graphics from other contributing artists will be displayed along with the books and the video in the gallery Carousell.
Gallery space will be transformed by the connection between exhibited artworks and spectators and engaged with discussions about the books and library themes. The display will be contrary to the classical presentation of most museums. The exhibition space will be turned into library space with almost no limit to the amount of information available or space to seek for the necessary.
Such an approach within the project sets BIBLOSS apart from the traditional perceptions. Also it is encouraging a deeper connection to art and to the source of the information. It is derived from the intensive study of exhibited books, sketches, drawings and prints. In this way project BIBLOSS acquires the dynamics of different meanings and a rich variety of characters and perspectives through the creative process.
